who are God’s remnant people?
Updated: Feb 7
In light of my recent visit to Passion 2020 I have found new spiritual inspiration. One of the main reasons for this is because of how blessed I was by the many guest speakers who preached at the sessions of the conference. Each of them touched on a topic and shared a perspective that I too have been thinking on.
As you may know, my immediate reaction has been to try and unite with these like-minded people. For the past 24 hours I have been pondering how it was possible for them to share the same message that I too have on my heart. I had never met them, read their books, or even heard of them. I know they have never met me or read my blog. So how is it that multiple people from different walks of life all proclaim the same message?
I believe this is the work of the Holy Spirit, and I believe it comes from the Bible.
In the New Testament, there is a mention of a remnant church. These are God's people who will remain faithful to him long after Jesus' second coming. I used to view this category of "remnant" believers as a rather exclusive and hard to join a group of individuals. Upon further study of the New Testament (specifically Paul's ministry) I no longer feel this way. Allow me to share:
Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
What does all of this mean? I believe it means that it is your personal decisions that make you a follower of Christ. It is the decision to believe in Him. The remnant people are not a nation, a state, an ethnicity, or a modern-day church. Let me repeat that, the remnant is not a church. I know this because it is not my choice of a church congregation that earns me salvation. I am not saved because I am an Adventist, a Baptist, a Catholic, a Jew, or any other form of worldly religion. The opportunity to be a part of the remnant people of the Bible is available to all people who live and breathe and walk on the earth.
How is it that those Passion speakers and I reached the same conclusions about spiritual matters? It is because we are all reading the same Bible and praying to the same God. He is not giving us exclusive, private messages based on our gender, our location, or our church affiliation. He is giving us ONE message, ONE purpose, and ONE ultimate goal- to reach more people for Him. We make it complicated, but it is not.
There is a movement upon the earth right now. People who believe in Jesus are reawakening or discovering their passion for Him. In a time when the devil is pulling young people into sinfulness, God has not abandoned us. He is at work. I am not saying this as if I hold some source of knowledge that you cannot attain. YOU too can understand what God is doing in the world at this very moment. Do you want to know how? By opening your Bible and reading it for yourself.
When you study the Bible and read it from cover to cover you will find that over time the way God has communicated to His people has adapted. In the beginning, he spoke audibly, directly to Adam and Eve. In the time of Moses, he spoke to a few specific chosen people. In the time of the kings, he spoke through prophets, utilizing visions and dreams. This continued for quite some time until He was able to descend directly onto earth in the form of Jesus, God himself. After Jesus' resurrection and ascension to heaven, He spoke to the apostles. This is where it gets interesting- because it was the apostles who wrote many of the books of the Bible. Now, we are beyond the time of the Bible but God is still speaking to us. God is speaking to us through the Bible. The Bible is the key, it is the answer, it is the source of a deeper more intimate relationship with God.
People often ask why can't I see God? Why doesn't God perform miracles? How do I know I have the Holy Spirit? The Bible is the key. When you open the Bible and read the words out of a sincere and pure mindset, the Holy Spirit will enter your life. He will lead you to Jesus and He will reveal His work on earth at this present time. I am a living testimony. I really have no other agenda for this blog, for my writings, for my message other than to urge you and plead with you to return to Bible study.
God is waiting patiently for you to connect with Him. There is something you too can offer the world for Christ, but until you take the time to study the Bible you will not be able to activate certain skills, skills only YOU can bless the world with.
It is for these reasons, that I have spoken so boldly and adamantly about my support of the Passion Conference as well as my concern for the Adventist Church. The Passion Conference is selling, promoting, and preaching directly from the Bible. They raised over 1 million dollars to be used to translate the Bible into languages that don't even have a printed copy of God's word yet. I cannot ignore the power of that. I have received several concerned comments in regards to my criticisms of Adventist methods at this time in the world. People are fearful of my decisions. They tell me they are afraid I am being led "astray" or that I will be in the near future. No my sweet friends and family, I am not being led astray, I am being led to Christ. It is the Bible and the Bible alone that I stand by. My faith is not so small that I believe the Lord will allow the devil to fool me. This does not mean I intend to be careless, but it does mean that I put my faith, my trust, and my security in God. He is my Maker and my Mentor and he will sustain me.
You too can develop this faith. You and I are equals. We face the same opportunities for ministry though they may take on different appearances. You are called. You are the remnant. You are reading this post for a reason. God is calling you back to the earnest study of His Word so that He may bless you like never before. Accept the Bible for what it is. Accept Jesus and His love for you. He will show you the way.
